Chocolate and Democracy!

Bloged in Uncategorized by reachingnepal Wednesday April 26, 2006

The last few days have been filled with some exciting events. Let me recap for you.

1. On Monday night the King went on national TV and announced that he was handing control of the government over to the seven political parties and that a new prime minister should be named. The violence was over and the people had won. Nepal is now in the first stages of democracy. Please continue to pray. The Maoist are still not happy and have promised to continue to fight the government. But for now, peace has been restored in Nepal.

2. With stores finally open I went to “Saleways”, a big import grocery store to shop for supplies. As I was there two amazing things happened. First, a massive celebration rally broke out in the streets. Thousands of people crammed the streets to rejoice in their new freedom. It was a sight to see. The second thing was almost as exciting. As I was walking down the ile I came across a miracle. Right there on the shelf they were selling “Riesen” chews. Go ahead and laugh, but I love those things. Last time someone came here they brought me two bags, but now I can have them whenever I want…..God is good!

3. Last night I was meeting with one of the guys I disciple and he asked me to speak at this big youth rally. I have no idea why he asked me, but I’m thankful he did. What a blessing to be able to preach the Word to the youth of Nepal. With each passing day I am more and more in awe of the goodness of God.

That’s all for now, stay tuned for more exciting episodes of my life.

  2. Jenn Says:

I bet you bought our their supply of Riesens huh? I’ve seen how you eat those things– praise God that he cares to bless us in even the little things huh? And thanks to you.. i’m addicted to those little candies to. Way to cause others to stumble Nathan! :-)

  3. Mom Says:

AHHHHH! I suspect there will be Reisens in Heaven for Nathan.. I send a prayer of praise to the Almighty for the improvements in Nepal and for your safety. I will continue to pray that God will watch over you both.

And now I will heave a sigh of relief and begin to breath again.

All my love, forever and ever,
    Mom

Don’t you just love those little blessings that God sends your way when you least expect them? It’s receiving a “present” for no reason but that God just wanted to shower a little more of His love on you. It may seem silly, but I cherish the little blessings as much, or maybe even more than the big blessings. To me, they say that God is not just doing the duty of a Provider, but that He is a doting Father, who rejoices to see us happy.
It is so wonderful to here of the change that has finally come to Nepal! I will continue to pray for your safety but will also now pray for wisdom in the establishment of this new government. (Thanks to government class, I am now a little wiser on the subject.)
It must be exciting to be able to talk to a group of teens again. I will be praying that God gives you the right words to say and that He will move among those in attendence.

  5. Mandi Says:

    Nathan,
Riesens? Ick! But I am glad that God gave you a little piece of unexpected goodness! (And chocolate, despite the raisins, is definitely a blessing!) Just wanted to tell you that I was praying for you and that I miss you a lot. We prayed for you yesterday in homeroom and I have been doing quite a bit of personal praying on your behalf (I just knew you were going to go get you head chopped off or something!) I am glad that everything is turning out alright and that you are still “capitated” (the opposite of decapitated!) I hope you have a wonderful week. Preach God’s Word in that youth rally. You have a way of getting to us kids! I hope you reach many people and touch a Nepali’s life the way you touched mine. Love ya, Mandi

  6. Cliff Says:

    Hello my friend,

Well, I am the deprived one! What is a Riesen? Is that how they say raisin in Nepalese? Oh well, I’ll have to try one.

I trust things are going well. According to your comments, good things are happening. We miss you around here.

May God extend his mercy to you as you minister the truth of the Gospel in that youth rally. There is not a day that passes that we do not think of you. May the Lord bless you.

    Cliff
